    • The National Safety Council predicts that we (US) will retire about 1 Billion PCs by 2010. The waste will contain more than:
      • 4 Billions lbs. of plastics
      • 1 Billion lbs. of lead
      • 1.9 Million lbs. of cadmium
      • 1.2 million lbs. of chromium
      • 400,000 lbs of mercury
  5. In 2006:

    • 904 million PCs were purchased worldwide

    • Over 500 Million personal computers will become obsolete.

    • Americans use an average of 6 wireless products in their day to day lives. 30% use 8 or more. ( EPA )

    • In Oregon and Washington It is estimated that 1,600 computers become obsolete each day. ( Basel Action Network )

    • More than 3.2 Million tons of electronic waste is laid to rest in the US landfills each year.

    • 75% of the equipment recycled comes from electronics manufacturers and large corporations (>500 employees)

    • Only 20% of US organizations dispose of their PC asset through recycling companies. 60% donate or store and the remaining 20% landfills.

  6. Between 2000 and 2005:

    • About 500 million PCs were retired worldwide.

    • About 100 million PCs were retired in the US.
